Trying to lose weight fast is a struggle for everybody. Even I, as a Nutritionist, experienced the hardship. However, to lose weight fast is not impossible if you will eat the right kind of food. The key is diet, physical activities, and a total lifestyle change. You cannot just choose one and leave the other behind to become fit and healthy.

Adlai and Vegetable Fried Rice

A Healthy Way to Lose Weight Fast

I will introduce you to an ingredient that is becoming very popular in health and nutrition. Adlai or Job’s tears are a type of grass that mainly grows in India, China, and other parts of Asia. It is called Job’s tears because it is tear-shaped and available in diverse colors. The seeds are also used for ornamental purposes, but it has a significant role in health and nutrition.

Adlai vs. Rice

This grain looks and tastes similar to rice, but the difference is its nutty flavor. The texture is close to al dente like in pasta, and it’s bigger than rice. Hence, it is also chewy in texture that can be an issue for some, especially for the elderly.

Nutritional Value

Adlai is an energy-dense food that is why it can provide an energy boost without too many calories. It makes us feel full longer, so we tend to eat less for a day. If you restrict your calories, then ½ cup of it every meal is enough. As a nutritionist, I do not advocate crash diets and total elimination of carbohydrates in the diet to lose weight fast. It is because carbohydrates are macronutrients needed by the body to function well.

Moreover, it is very rich in protein that is about 14% of its total macronutrient distribution. Another essential part of the diet is fiber which is the nourishment of probiotic bacteria inside our gut. Fiber has many benefits in reducing bad cholesterol or LDL and slowing down glucose absorption in the body. Adlai is the best source of fiber.

Health Benefits

If you have diabetes, you may consume Adlai because of its low glycemic index of 35. Good carbohydrates are those with a low GI of 55 and under. These carbs are slowly digested, absorbed, and metabolized. As a result, it will not cause a rise in your blood sugar level. People who are sensitive to gluten can enjoy this dish because it is gluten-free.
